SeaRCHZIPRar is an across-directories file(s) finder for ZIP and RAR archives with substring search and wild card support. Searches all ZIP archives or RAR archives including hidden, system, and readonly archives wherever they may be placed including in hidden and system directories on a floppy disk / a Hard Disk Drive / a logical partition of it / CD. The archives could have been created using even the latest WINDOWS versions of the respective archivers, like, WINZIP, PKZIP for WINDOWS and WINRAR.
Across-directory scanning for finding archives, and substring search on filenames inside archives are what the archivers themselves may not be able to do.
The ZIP or RAR archives may have been placed anywhere on a logical disk partition / CD. All archives are searched irrespective of their HIDDEN, SYSTEM, and / or READONLY file attributes. All directories are scanned for ZIP or RAR archives irrespective of their HIDDEN and / or SYSTEM attributes.
Supports the "*" and "?" wild card characters.
Searching for files with long space-separated names can be made easier by using the question mark ("?") wild card character. Just replace the spaces with question mark characters.
Always performs substring search. A special switch can specify that substring must occur in the first part of the filename. This helps in fast finding of file whose name is specified in full on 386's and below.
Provides runtime options to go to DOS prompt, log to archive's directory, proceed with more archives or just back out to let the user to start all over again.
Lists archived files' names with their uncompressed size. The archive's name with full path appears as heading for the list.
An exhaustive list can be sent to file.
Must-have utility for those who switch from a small hard disk to a large one and ZIP / RAR up all the old stuff on the old drive and place them on the new drive suspecting old drive's ability to keep data error-free in future.
