Work At Home Discipline 101

By:elias georgi

“Beep, beep, beep.” Your alarm clock interrupts your deep sleep. You yawn and stretch to shut it off. It’s 8 am. You get out of bed, throw on shorts and a t-shirt, make some coffee, grab your laptop computer, and head out to the picnic table on your backyard deck.

It’s another sunny day… at work.

No, this is not a dream – at least not for those people who work at home. Many people with jobs in marketing, public relations, writing, and sales can work alone at home. If you’re skeptical about the idea of earning a living without leaving your house, realize that it can be done successfully. Your success, however, depends upon you. So before you rip up the latest project your boss gave you, read the following questions. They will help you decide whether or not you should work at home.

Are you self motivated?

Self-motivation is a key character trait you must possess in order to successfully work from home. If you are able to work without a boss or peer giving you constant direction and feedback, you will be well suited to have a home based business. However, if you need the structure of a workplace environment, working alone is probably not for you.

You must also consider whether or not you become distracted easily. Does having a boss around help you maintain focus? If so, then you obviously need motivation from an authority figure, and would probably not fare well being alone.

Are you organized and disciplined?

In order to work at home, you must be able to balance your schedule. By planning in advance what you will do and when you will do it, you will be able to organize your week or month ahead of time. This will help prevent you from getting behind with deadlines or missing your son’s soccer game.

When you work from home you must also be disciplined enough to put in a full day of work without becoming distracted by things such as watching television, going to the store, or housecleaning. Working at home may often require extra hours, as the project is not finished until you complete it.

While doing your work, you must also be able to balance your life and your family’s life. You need to find time for your children, spouse, parents, and friends. Exercising and doing chores around the house is also important. Sitting at your desk all day and night is not healthy for you or for your family.

Does childcare play a factor in your desire to work at home?

Many mothers love the idea of working at home because it allows them to care for their child (or children) while earning money. However, it is not a wise idea to work from home for this reason alone. If you don’t have the discipline.
