Baby Car Seats Protection Measures

By:Tamara Williams

I have seen many people using regular baby seats instead of baby car seats when traveling by car. Maybe someone needs to tell those people about the huge number of babies that have been killed or severely injured in car accidents.

Many babies that miraculously survive these accidents are left with serious deformations caused by the impact against the windshield or other parts of the car, and will never be able to become adults with full normal lives.

Baby car seats are specifically designed to protect your baby within a car in the event of an accident, not just to allow him to sit down. Also, the baby car seat must be properly installed, obviously in the back seat of the car, in order to ensure full protection of your baby.

You must follow these rules when choosing a car seat for your baby:

1.- Never use a baby car seat that is not new, as used ones may seem to be ok, but have structural damage that is both potentially dangerous and not noticeable.

2.- The car seat must meet the legal safety standards, more exactly the vehicle safety laws.

3.- If the baby car seat is missing a part, even the smallest screw, replace it. Also avoid buying seats that doesn’t have the manufacturer name, date of manufacture and model number.

4.- As within every product, materials suffer from aging. Replace the baby car seat when the “use until” date printed on the seat label becomes old.

5.- If your baby is younger than 1 year, the car seat must be facing backwards.

6.- Choose baby car seat that fits your baby, as a small baby can slip out of a seat made for a bigger child.
Keep these short tips at hand when buying baby car seats. Remember: it is always better to be safe than sorry.
