Do You Have What it Takes to Start Your Own Business?
By:Barney Garcia
A lot of people have the dream of opening their own business, perhaps because they want to be their own boss, they think they could make more money, or they feel excited by the challenge. However, there are also a lot of people who start up their own business and fail. Before you jump into starting a business read this article to see if you have what it takes.
Having your own business can mean selling products, providing a service or selling a new invention. If you have a lot of knowledge in your field, you have an original idea, you want to turn your hobby into an employment opportunity or you have inherited a family business you might want to consider self employment. There can be a lot of perks from running your own business, such as the ability to earn a lot of money, working hours that suit you, having independence, being your own boss; which eliminates office politics and office tension. Another perk is that all the hard work you put in to your job benefits you directly. However, on the other hand, you need to think about some of the drawbacks of running a business. You will lack the support and safety that you would have working for a company, in the early stages you might not make very much money, you might have irregular income, there will be no employer benefits such as paid holidays and sick days, you will also probably have to work long hours and it might be lonely since you won’t have the same interaction as you used to with your old colleges.
If you think you have a good business idea, and you are willing to work hard, there is no reason you shouldn’t try to go for it. If you are worried about the financial risks, you could try working part time at your current job and try starting up your business with the rest of your time. The type of people who make successful business owners typically share similar qualities. These include having drive and determination, being creative and innovative, have the ability to be very focused, having a good business sense, being persuasive, being self motivated, being a good decision makers and having the ability to take calculated risks.
Remember that before starting a business, preparation is key. Make sure you do a lot of research on your market of choice, identify your competitors, find out if you need any formal training and find out any laws and requirements for starting up a business in your area.
