Daybeds Serve Multifunctional Purposes

By:Julien Raynal

There is always a lot of planning happening in a house – either while building a new home or every once in a few years for an existing home. This is mainly true of homes full of kids growing up. Homes also have to be well designed for emergencies and temporary needs like planning for special occasions, new additions to the family or unexpected guests and visitors who have to be accommodated and entertained.

In spite of a very thorough planning, cases of contingency always exist, as it is not always possible to predict them. Although it would be unusual for a house to be designed to plan for all these contingency situations, one which has three or four guest rooms in addition to the minimal two or three required by the people living in the home would probably be well prepared.

Considering these situations, it is always not a surprise to find online web catalogs and home interior improvement stores advertising for temporary home interior furniture that are needed to make a quick alternative interior space. Day beds fit within this category of home furniture. Day beds are most useful in case of a need to accommodate somebody in a hurry, and only for a temporary period of time and still maintain a good look with not too many beds lying all over the home. Day beds are lighter, smaller forms of traditional beds. They do not have elaborate bedding, skirts etc... Instead, day beds have the most optimal and bare necessary items like minimum sheets, pillows, and blankets more for their utilitarian purpose rather than stylish needs.

The biggest advantage of day beds is that they add to the beauty of the home interior furniture, and do not add unnecessary weight with any heavy wood, carvings, frills, throw pillows, embroidery, florals, bed skirts, lace etc... Pillows that come in straight edged shams are used in day beds, and elaborate throw pillows and pillow coverings are normally avoided.
In spite of not having a head frame and a footboard, day beds manage to look quite elegant without being offensive, and they are easy to maintain too. It is easy to straighten the sheets in a few minutes, unlike the elaborate straightening one needs to give on a full-blown bed with its bedding, skirting, frills, lacing, comforters, and pillows.

There is only a certain amount of weight that daybeds can take, as they are not made of heavy wrought irons, so it is wise to plan accordingly so as not to cause any damage to the day bed frames or to the occupants.

Daybeds are one of the simple, chic, and yet modern form of a home interior furniture design. In some homes, children who are too old for cots, but too young for the full blown bed, sleep in day beds, which allow them a lower height, with a single mattress, yet all the comforts required for a good night sleep, providing the added benefit of being easier to clean and maintain.
