Abilities, Talents and Powers

By:Robert Elias Najemy

We all have abilities and powers that we have not yet developed. Many of us seem to subconsciously block the development of these natural abilities, which are waiting within us for a chance to express themselves. Our happiness and self-fulfillment depends on our expressing our inner potential as much as possible. Let us investigate how we can liberate ourselves from these limitations and express our full potential, for the sake of ourselves and the society around us.

There is one creative power in the universe and it expresses itself through all beings. Each and every being on the earth is an instrument for the expression of this universal creative energy, which is being expressed through all of nature unconsciously, and through man, to a certain extent, consciously. That is, the personality is becoming conscious of this creative energy and identifies with it. The following example will help us to understand the personality’s role in this creative process.

On the right of the diagram, we see the Spirit, which is eternal and one with God. It is always perfect and unchanging. It is divine. It expresses itself, however, through a series of bodies or vehicles here on earth. This Spirit, or Divine Self, is the source of all creative expression on the earth. But the vehicles, through which this energy flows, limit and give shape to this energy. We might imagine that the Spirit emits an unlimited pure white light and that, as this light passes through the vehicles or filters, its lightness is dimmed, colored and given a specific shape, according to what is imprinted on those lenses or filters.

You will notice that there are five filters, or lenses, and that they are grouped into two sections, by a separating wall with an aperture. The three lenses to the left represent the body and personality. They are the material body, the energy body and the mental body. These are the basic instruments of expression through which all creative acts flow on the earth. If they are weak, ill, or overactive, or out of control, then we cannot create effectively.

The two filters on the right of the aperture and to the left of the Spirit comprise the soul, which continues to exist after the death of the body and the mind, and transfers the various capabilities and learned concepts from one incarnation to the next. These two bodies are called the higher intellect and the casual body. The causal body is the memory storehouse of the soul, in which all of the experiences of all the incarnations are recorded and are thus available to the soul at all times. Whether or not they are available to the mind will depend on how connected the mind is to the soul, that is, how much one has developed the ability to still the mind and turn it inward to receive information and inspiration from within. For many, this occurs automatically and subconsciously during the hours of dreaming.

The higher intellect is the ability to discriminate between the real and the temporary, between what is beneficial to the evolving soul and what is detrimental. It is like the conscience, in Western terms. It is also responsible for clarity, wisdom and detachment from material and emotional disturbances. This, too, is developed gradually from life to life as the soul learns through its experiences.

THE PURPOSE OF LIFE

The purpose of life is twofold. On the one hand, we are here in order to rediscover our spiritual identity, that we are immortal spirits, who are only temporarily incarnated in these vehicles of flesh. And secondly, to express that magnificent spiritual beauty which exists within us (and is so obvious in nature) here on the earth plane. Each will express this inner beauty in different ways according to the nature of his vehicles.

We need to withdraw consciousness out of its attachment to the vehicles of expression, i.e. body, emotions and mind and come into contact with the latent power and beauty that are within us. Then, as we move outwards again, our actions and movements will be saturated with the harmony of nature.

We must understand that our true reality is that light which is passing through all those lenses. We are, in fact, not the lenses. They are the means of our expression on earth. Thus, our goal is to perfect the various vehicles so that they will become more effective for us.
